All students pay a flat registration fee to take up to 6 classes.
The class fee goes 100% to the instructor for materials and teaching of their respective classes.

Crochet

Broomstick Lace (Beginner)

Broomstick lace, also known as jiffy lace or peacock eye crochet, combine aspects of crochet and knitting to create a unique lace pattern.  We will use crochet hooks & knitting needles or broomsticks to develop a beautiful lace stitch and will experiment with different size tools for different effects.  All supplies for the class are included.

Crochet Amigurami (Beginner)

This is a beginner friendly class but one should know the basic of crochet, single crochet and chain stitch.  We will learn the magic circle start technique and the basics of figure formation.  All class supplies are included in the kit.   Cotton yarn, crochet hook, stitch markers, safety eyes & nose, fiber stuffing and yarn needle.

Tunisian Enterlac Crochet (Adv. Beginner)

Try Tunisian Enterlac Crochet – a fun crochet technique that creates striking diamond patters that look complex but are deceptively simple to crochet.  Students must be comfortable with the Tunisian Simple Stitch.  We will make a small washcloth in class.  Please bring a size I straight-shank crochet hook, scissors, and a tapestry needle. Yarn will be provided.

Dyeing

Intro to Natural Dyes (Beginner)

Mother Nature is gracious enough to lay a color palette right outside our windows.  We will explore some of what she has to offer, giving you the courage to go out and sample more.  Students will go home with samples we dye in class plus others dyed previously.  All material furnished plus handouts.  Students should bring pen or pencil to take notes.

Intro to Silk Painting (Beginner)

Experience the art of silk painting/dyeing.  Learn simple techniques with and without resists as you design and paint/dye two colorful silk hoops.  We will also discuss how the technique we cover in class can be used to paint/dye beautiful silk scarves and shawls.  All supplies will be provided.  You will leave with two hand-painted silk hoops, a starter set of silk paints and the confidence to do more silk painting/dyeing on your own.

Felting

Stitch & Store (Beginner)

Students will be getting 2 classes for the price of 1.  Students will be able to create a needle felted pin cushion and will weave a small basket that can hold a small sewing kit.

Needle Felted Tote Bag (Beginner)

The student will begin with roving and needle felt it into a beautiful and functional shoulder length tote bag.  The student will learn proper needling technique and depth control   We will also explore laying of fiber and directional orientation to achieve the best outcome depending on the project.  This will be a delightful time together and you will leave with a finished project.

Needle Felt a Picture (Beginner)

You will learn how to use a pretty napkin and turn it into a felted picture.  You will take home a 6 x 6 picture in a frame mount with a back.  You will get napkin, fiber for felting, needles a wow mat and scissors.

Zipply Needle Felting (Beginner)

In this class, students will create their own freestyle doodle design using zippers, roving and lots of embellishments.  I will share my tricks and tips to assist in helping you create your own doodle design within a 3-inchin square.  There will be plenty of examples of doodle pieces as well as patterns just in case.  The design will then be used as the pattern.  Zippers are sewn onto wool felt, filled in with wool roving using the technique of needle felting and then buttons, beads, metal and other embellishments are added.

Bag on a Ball (Beginner)

Learn the magic of wet felting while creating a beautiful one of a kind bag!  In this hands on class you will be provided wool and notions, soapy water and your creativity to make wearable art.

Knitting

Intro to Brioche Knitting (Adv. Beginner)

Come learn the wildly popular brioche stitch.  In this class you will learn the basics of two-color brioche in the round.  You will leave the class with the knowledge to knit basic brioche projects, tips and tricks to help you avoid common pitfalls, and the start of your first brioche cowl.  Students need to bring two skeins of DK or worsted weight yarn in contrasting colors, solid or semisolid colors recommended, 16-in US 7/4.5mm circular needles or size appropriate for your yarn, stitch markers.  Students must be comfortable with basic knitting skills such as knitting, purling, knitting in the round, k2tog, yo and slipping stitches.

Brioche – Next Steps (Intermediate)

If you are comfortable with basic two-color brioche knitting, but want to learn the skills to knit intricate brioche designs with flowing leaves or twisting cables, this is the class for you.  You will learn the most common increases and decreases used in brioche for both fabric shaping and patterning.  You will also learn basic right leaning and left leaning brioche cables that create cable crosses on the right side of the fabric and maintain undisturbed brioche rib on the wrong side.   Students need to bring two contrasting colors of DK or worsted weight yearn (stash leftovers are fine, solids or semisolids recommended), 16-inch US 7/4.5mm circular needles or size appropriate for your yarn, cable needles, locking stitch markers.  Students must be comfortable with basic brioche knitting flat.  Can be taken after Intro to Brioche class>

Knitting Cables (Adv. Beginner)

This class will teach beginning cable knitting techniques.  It is good for anyone that has basic knitting ability of knit & purl stitches and kitting in a round.  We will use the magic loop method to knit a cable pumpkin.  All supplies will be included for the class – yarn circular needles, stitch markers, cable needle, yarn needle, fiber stuffing and weights.

Knitting Lace (Adv. Beginner)

Are you fascinated by intricate knitted lace pieces and wondering how they are created?  This class will provide an introduction to the wide ranging topic of lace knitting, including how the intricate designs are created.  Class fee includes yarn and needles for practicing techniques, a handout and a patter for lace bookmark.

Latvian Braid  (Adv Beginner)

This class teaches how to flat knit the Latvian Braid and how to add this to your project.  Students should know basic knit & purl stitches.  Kit will include knitting needles, quality yarn, yarn needle, pattern, stitch markers and tape measure.  We will also discuss how to knit Latvian Braid in a round.

Read your Knitting (Adv. Beginner)

In this class we will discuss how to “read your knitting”.  Reading your knitting is an important skill that will improve your knitting and help you fix mistakes.  We will look at lace charts, cable, garter, stockinet and ribbed patterns.  In class, we will use prepared swatches to practice reading the work.

Intro to Steeking  (Adv. Beginner)

Steeking can be scary, so let’s break it down together.  We will discuss what steeking is used for, how to set up for a steek and ways to reinforce your steek.  During class, we will cut a steek together.  You will each have your own sample to practice on.  I will supply the fabric and yarn for the reinforcements.  Students ring a sharp pair of scissors, a crochet hook and your courage.

Sweater Knitting Break Down  (Adv. Beginner)

If you have been intimidated to knit a sweater, this class is here to build your confidence.  We will talk about how to measure for an accurate fit, ways to alter a pattern so that it fits your body, ways to modify a sweater pattern and how to try on the project as you go to ensure the proper fit.  Bring your questions, and we will tackle them together in this class.  Students bring their favorite sweater (store bought or hand knit) and we can discuss the elements of that sweater.  I will provide a template for measurements that you can take home for your next sweater.

Other Classes

Blending Fiber for Color Gradation (Beginner)

 In this class students will learn how to use hand cards to blend fiber.  Using wool and the “percentage/weight’ method we will blend a series of rolags gradually changing the color from white to black.  We will also card a set of rolags from one color to another (example: from red to blue) the same way as the white to black series.  You can spin them in class if you have time or save them for later.  Students will take home 1 set of 11 skeins/rolags and 1 set of 9 skeins/rolags in graduated colors.  Fiber and a handout will be provided.  Some hand cards will be available for use.  Students should bring wool cards if you have them and a pen/pencil.

Braided Matts (Beginner)

 This class equips fiber enthusiasts, new crafters, seasoned artists and more to create one of a kind heirloom quality rugs and matts from wool roving.  In this class we will cover braid selection, construction and create a trivet matt to take home.  All supplies provided.

Fiber Equipment Maintenance (Beginner)

Learn how to clean and service your drum carder, wool pickers and a tumbler.  Keeping your fiber tools in fine working order will keep you creating for a long time!

Fiber Preparation (Beginner)

Want to learn to make that beautiful fleece you just purchased, or helped grow into something useful and fun?  This class will take you through the steps to card, comb, flick or otherwise process your fiber for all the fun ways you want to use it.

Painting with Fiber (Beginner)

This class consists of ‘painting’ with fiber by laying the fiber using a template or freehand on a felt background and protecting it in an 8 x 10’ frame with glass.  No needle felting or wet felting involved.

Pine Needle Basket (Beginner)

Students will make a small basket with pine needles using the coiling method.  All materials will be provided.   Students can choose thread colors and decoration.

Turkey Wing Wisk Broom (Beginner)

Each student will learn to wrap a traditional turkey wing wisk broom with colored wrap.  Hand strength is necessary to do this class.  Each student will have a finished broom to take home.

Washing Wool (Beginner)

 Focus will be on variety of ways to wash wool.  All materials and handouts will be provided.

Wool Breed Sampler (Beginner)

This class will introduce you to the properties of various breeds in the 5 classes of wool.  Focus will be on characteristics.  All material needed will be provided by the instructor.

Wool Tree (Beginner)

We will make a tree out of wool strips using floral wire, floral tape and wool strips.  Wooly tree stands 18” tall when complete.  It is perfect for displaying felted ornaments.

Bobbin Lace (Adv. Beginner)

Have you ever been mesmerized by someone making bobbin lace?  In this class students will learn the fundamentals of the beautiful art of making lace by hand and make a small bookmark or pin to take home.  Fee includes an instructional booklet, pattern, threads and use of the instructor’s pillows, pins and bobbins.  Students may bring their own pillow, but please let the instructor know.   Pillow and bobbins are available to purchase after class for an additional fee.

Dorset Button Bouquet (Adv. Beginner)

An advanced beginner Dorset button class that will take you a step further in your Dorset Button journey.  Create a floral bouquet button that can be worn as an accent for you shawl or cape.  All material provided.

Hooking with Fiber Locks (Adv. Beginner)

Discover a fresh, tactile twist on traditional rug hooking in this hands-on class designed for advanced beginners. Using locks of fiber, a modified tube turner, and Monk’s cloth, students will learn how to “latch hook” individual locks through the backing to create lush, dimensional faux-fur textures—perfect for embellishing clothing, purses, accessories, and mixed-media wall art.  We’ll work on a small hide-style patch that can be transformed into a purse charm, stitched onto a jacket, added to a bag, or incorporated into your own creative projects. The technique is approachable for anyone with basic latch rug-hooking familiarity, and we’ll also cover simple hand-sewing methods for binding or finishing the edges.  This class is ideal for fiber lovers who want to explore texture, play with color, and experiment with sculptural surface design. Whether you’re looking to expand your latch rug-hooking skills or try something completely new, you’ll leave with a finished embellishment and the confidence to create more at home.

Kumihimo (Intermediate)

Kumihimo Braiding is an ancient Japanese art.  In the intermediate class students will learn the basics of the flat braid.  The flat braid is most often used for creating jewelry, trimmings, belts, hats and headbands.  All materials provided.  We will be making a braid that can be used for a necklace or hat band.  Students will be able to take all supplies home to finish project if not completed in class.

Nalbinding (Intermediate)

In this class we will take your basic skills in nalbinding with the Oslo stitch and learn how to start in the round and oval, expanding and decreasing stitches, and pattern reading.  We will also explore a couple of new stitches to expand your stitch library.  We will work to get you started on a hat, mittens or socks depending on your interest.  Students should have basic nalbinding skills with understanding in the Oslo stitch.  You will be provided with handout and yarn to learn on, if you you have a specific project you want to begin, please bring your own working yarn.  Bring your own needle to work with.

Ply-Split Braiding (Intermediate)

Ply-split braiding (darning) is a technique where one twisted cord passes through another twisted cord or cords splitting the plies of the latter cords.  This is unlike weaving or many forms of braiding were cloth is formed by threads interlacing in an over-under sequence.  Patterns are formed by cord color, and splitting order.   This is an intermediate class in ply-split braiding.  Students will learn 2 darn structures.  We will discuss yarns and tools.  Students will be making a bracelet.  Need at least beginner experience, better if you have practiced and are familiar with the techniques.  Bring your gripfid, writing utensil and scissors.  Cords and handout will be provided.   Will have gripfids for sale.

Spinning

Beginning Wheel Spinning 

Congratulations!  You jumped feet first into spinning and bought your first wheel!  Too bad you have no idea how to use it.  If it isn’t actively contributing to your stress levels, it’s probably sitting in timeout collecting dust.  We can fix that.  In this class, you will learn to make your own yarn on your spinning wheel.  Students should bring a spinning wheel in working order.  Fiber for class will be provided.   (There will be limited wheel for rent, please let us know if you need to rent one).

Spinning Art Batts (Adv. Beginner)

Intimidated by art batts?  Unsure how to spin them?  Ended up with an art batt you don’t like?  This is the class for you!  We’ll explore the construction of art batts, discuss 3 approaches to spinning them, and then practice the different approaches.  This not a class about specific techniques, but rather a class that encourages you to step outside the boundaries of how you approach and think about batt spinning.  While intended primarily for wheel spinners (traditional or electric), the course can be taken using drop or Turkish spindles.   Students need to know how to spin and ply and bring a traditional or electric spinning wheel (orifice should be at least ¼”) with 3 3mpty bobbins or 3 spindles.  A sense of adventure an dhumor.  Students receive 4 AriBo Arts mini-batts or 2 regular size batts.

Crepes, Cables & Coils (Intermediate)

You’ve mastered the basic two-ply yarn.  Now it’s time to jazz up your weaving and knitting.  In this class, we will learn to create crepe, cabled and coiled yarns and see how these technique can be used together to bring texture into your yarn.  Students should bring a spinning wheel in good working order with at least 3 bobbins. Homework:  Pre-spin ½ or so ounces of singles before the class.

Weaving

Christmas Manger (Beginner)

Weave a manger for Christmas decorations.  All materials will be included: reed, base & figurines.

Christmas Ornament (Beginner)

Weave a Christmas ornament for a look of Christmas Past.  All matieral will be included for two ornaments.  You will make 1 or 2 (if you have time) during class.

Cuff Weaving (Beginner)

This class is for all levels of weaving from beginner to advanced.  It will give you an introduction to Saori Style weaving on a small format using a Jewel Loom.  Saori is unique and totally different from other traditional styles of hand weaving.  Saori is an art form in which we express our true selves in weaving.  This small scale loom experience can be transferred into traditional weaving as well.  With Saori you weave from your heart and there are no mistakes.  With this smaller format you can explore with little effort or loss of materials.  All materials will be provided and the loom is yours to take home.  (Additional looms can be pre-ordered at $10)  Students may also decide to bring scraps of hand spun, ribbon and beads you treasure and maybe even an old piece of jewelry as a focal point.

Continuous Strand Weaving (Beginner)

This class will teach the basic techniques of how to use continuous strand weaving on square and triangle looms to complete a small project in three hours. Something such as a small purse or pouch. No measuring, warping, or math required. Everything needed to complete the project will be provided except scissors and a pencil.

Fiber Rush (Beginner)

Fiber rush is a durable paper rope. Students will use this to weave a seat on a small handmade stool. All materials provided: stool, fiber rush, clamp and printed directions.

Inkle Loom Weaving (Beginner)

Ever look at a loom and wonder if weaving was for you?  We will use a mini-inkle loom to create a warp faced fabric that will introduce you to some of the principles of weaving.  Class includes an Inkle Loom and shuttle for you to keep.

Rigid Heddle (Beginner)

Interested in learning to weave but not ready to invest in a ‘big loom”?  Start by learning basic weaving techniques on a rigid heddle loom. We will address warping the loom and working with color and textures.  Use of the instructors looms and all yarn provided.

Tapestry Weaving (Beginner)

 Step into the world of tapestry weaving.  Learn how to create simple yarn, wool and notrions into woven art.  From setting up the loom to creating your tapestry we cover every step.  All supplies provided.

Tissue Box Basket  (Beginner)

Make a decorative tissue box woven on wooden base.  Techniques to learn include weaving over a mold, over/under weave, 3 rod wale, and a Cherokee wheel.

Wine Basket (Beginner)

Students will make a 9 x 5 x 10” wine basket that holds 2 bottles, snack and has a topper to carry the glasses.  Start/stop, twining, fillars with chicken feet along with lashing will be taught.  Color choices will be available the day of class.

Beyond Basic RH (Adv. Beginner)

You have a RH loom and know how to do a basic plain weave.  Learn simple, fun techniques to add texture & interest to your weaving.  Pick up stick patterns, clasp weft, leno lace and maybe a little Saori.  Students should warp your loom for 5-7” width and 5’ long.  Bring a shuttle loaded with a contrasting color and bring additional yarn.  Bring your stand if you have one and a pair of scissors.  You will leave with a sample weaving of different techniques and a pick up stick.  Some additional yarns will be available for use. (Note:  Will have 2 looms for rent at $20 – reserve ahead of time

Color Effects in CSW (Adv. Beginner)

Have you already taken the basic CSW class and have the technique down?  Ready for the next step in making your shawls and blankets POP and sell?  Using 2 colors to create twills, strips, checks and log cabin designs is really not difficult in CSW.  Come learn some fun new ways to weave on these unique looms.  If you already have a travel size frame loom  (no 6” mini Mods) bring it along (let Bex know).. Otherwise, Bex will provide the loom yarns and tools for your project in class.

Fingerweaving the Arrow (Adv. Beginner)

Students will learn to fingerweave a two-tone bracelet in the arrow design.  All material, including America-made wool yarn and photo illustrated instruction booklet are included.

Students must know how to warp an inkle loom.  Once you have the mechanics of dressing an inkle loom and weaving a uniform band, a good next step is to weave turned krokbragd.  This is a warp faced weave that requires no pick-up.  Using three sheds; you can weave figures, geometrics or even create landscapes and other nontraditional patters.  Going from the possibility of two sheds to three sheds exponentially increases design potential.   Students should bring their own loom (including 30 heddles), sharp scissors and writing instrument for note taking. Thread and handouts will be provided.
