Crochet
Beginning Crochet (Beginner)
Students will learn about hook sizes and yarn weights, basic crochet stitches – chain stitch; single, half double, double, and triple/treble stitches; and slip stitch – and how to read a simple pattern with abbreviations. We will also discuss why choosing the right yarn for your project is important as well as the importance of swatching. Yarn will be provided for students to keep and practice with.

Tunisian Mosaic Crochet (Adv. Beginner)
Tunisian Crochet lends itself to a variety of interesting color change techniques. One of these fascinating techniques is Tunisian Mosaic Crochet. It appears complex but is deceptively simple. In this class we will use this fun and fascinating technique to make a bookmark as well as share patterns for other projects. Students need to have a basic knowledge of how to do Tunisian Crochet and the Tunisian Simple Stitch. Students need to bring a straight shank size F crochet hook or Tunisian crochet hook and a sharp pair of scissors. Yarn, patterns and instruction sheet will be provided.

Tunisian in the Round (Adv Beginner)
In this class the more advanced Tunisian Crochet enthusiasts, we will learn more about color-work in Tunisian and new stitches while working in the round. We will make a can cozy using stitches and color-work we learn in class. A double ended Tunisian hook, yarn and instructional booklet will be provided. Students need to be comfortable working basic Tunisian Crochet and Tunisian Simple Stitch. Please bring scissors and a darning needle.

Dyeing
Botanically Printed Socks (Beginner)

Ice Dyed Tote (Beginner)
Unleash your creativity and add a splash of color to your everyday life! Join us for an exciting hands-on experience where you’ll learn the fascinating art of ice dyeing and transform a plain canvas tote bag into a vibrant, one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Students will learn basic color theory while diving into the mesmerizing process of layering ice and dyes to create stunning, watercolor-like designs. All materials provided. Felting
Bag on a Ball (Beginner)
Wet felting on a ball is a fun and innovative way to create useful and beautiful 3 dimensional items. Students will use provided ball, fiber and accessories to make a one of a kind piece of wool art.

Felted Soap (Beginner)
Students will learn how much fun and how easy it is to make 2 felted bars of soap to take home. All material provided. It is recommended to wear an apron to keep dry.

Light up the Night (Beginner)
You will wet felt your choice of a ghost or Christmas tree shape over a resist. Then needle felt a face on the ghost or decorations on the tree. A small flicker light turns it into a night light decoration. All materials provided. NOTE; This is a TWO part class to allow items to dry.

Needle Felting a Bowl (Beginner)
Come enjoy needle felting a basic bowl then, having great fun embellishing it to reflect your creativity. All material provided necessary to complete a needle felted bowl. You will take home a completed project, a bowl form, a large needle felting tool and printed instruction.

Needle Felt a Pixie House (Beginner)
Learn the basics of needle felting by felting a Pixie House. In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of felting by making a mushroom (about 6” tall) and decorating it with doors and windows to make it look like a house. In the class participants will learn the basics of creating a generic shape, contouring and the use of color.

Wool Spirits (Beginner)
In this class, students will be provided a felt base, locks and fiber for the facial features. All supplies will be provided. Once created your ‘wool spirit’ will guard over you, your fiber animals and your fiber stash!

Zipply Pumpkin (Beginner)
In this class, we will be making a pumpkin shaped brooch or art piece using zippers, roving and embellishments. The zipper is hand sewn onto wool felt making the outline of the pumpkin. The inside is filled in with wool roving using the technique of needle felting. The center of the pumpkin will become your canvas to create a miniature fall landscape. Trees on either side of the landscape will make the perfect frame and small beads will be added to depict fall leaves completing the look.

Knitting
Learn to Knit (Beginner)
We will learn how to cast on, the knit stitch and bind off. I will provided a simple pattern to practice on. This is a beginner class that needs no experience to learn in. If we have time we will discuss the purl stitch at the end. Yarn and needles will be provided. If you have a personal preference of needles bring your own, we will be using US 6-8 needle.

Rake Knitting (Beginner)
Also known as Loom Knitting is an easy, fun craft. It’s history can be traced back to ancient times. For beginners, it’s a gentle introduction to the knitting world. Rather than two knitting needles like traditional knitting, Rake / loom knits are made on a series of pegs. We will cover casting on, binding off and the basic e wrap stitch. All materials and tools will be provided. Students will take home their own 10 inch loom and supplies to finish the project we start in class.

Knitting 102 (Adv. Beginner)
So, you know how to cast on, nit, purl and bind off…now what? How do you make those pretty designs with your stitches, and decipher a written pattern? And what do you do about those twisty things that some yarn comes in? This class will help you take your knitting to the next level. Topics to be covered include: Learning the secret code of yarn labels, Needle sizes and types, Checking gauge and why it’s important, Standard pattern abbreviations, Various methods for increases and decreases, A variety of hints and tips from a seasoned knitter and simple finishing techniques. A handout will be provided. Students should know how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. Students should bring a ball of smooth light colored worsted weight yarn, and a pair of knitting needles appropriate to the size of the yarn for practicing new stitches.

Portuguese Knitting (Adventurous Beginner)
We will learn how to knit and purl using the Portuguese method. This method has small hand movements, making it a good choice to help with hand and joint issues. I will provide a simple pattern to practice on. Bring a light colored, smooth worsted yarn and appropriate needles.

Sheep Christmas Ornament (Adv. Beginner)
Make a cute Christmas ornament with sheep all around. This class will need knowledge of basic knitting. You will learn color work, increases and decreases. Students will be provided pattern and yarn and finish their ornament at home. Bring DP knitting needles US-2.

Stranded Knitting (Adv. Beginner)
This class teaches students to use 2 colors at the same time in fair-ile style knitting. The kit includes, quality Malabrigo yarn, circular needles (size 10), pom pom, yarn needle, stitch marker, button and pattern for the Midwest Winters Beanie Hat.

Sock Tube Transformation (Adv. Beginner)
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to quickly transform a hand cranked stockinette tube into a beautifully finished pair of DK shortie socks. All the knitting is done, we just add the heels, toes and cuffs! This class is perfect for those who want to experience sock knitting without starting from scratch. We will cover essential techniques such as measuring for the perfect fit, adding heels, toes, and cuffs, and learning how to customize your socks. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned sock knitter, you’ll leave with the confidence to turn sock tubes into cozy creations. This class is for the advanced beginner, it is important to know how to knit, purl, and decrease. Class includes a 50g hand cranked sock tube and 2- 20g mini. Please bring size #3 DPN (9” circular, flexiflips or magic loop whatever you are most comfortable with), darning needle, scissors, pen & paper, tape measure and locking stitch markers. Additional tubes available for purchase after class.

Baby Socks (Intermediate)
Learn to knit socks two at a time using US #3, 40″ inch circular needles. Students need to have sock knitting experience and know how to knit using the magic loop method. Students should bring a US #3, 40″ circular needle, removable stitch markers, scissors, tapestry needle, tape measure, waste yarn. DK weight yarn will be provided.

Blending Board Basics (Beginner)
Students will learn the basics of using a blending board to blend multiple colors and addins to create rolags. Blending boards and fiber will be provided to use in class. If you have your own blending board, you are welcome to bring it.

Color Theory & Golden Mean (Beginner)
We will use a color wheel and explore the Artistic Concepts behind Compliments, Analogous and Contrasting Harmonies. Then using these concepts, will plan some simple project Storyboards with sketch book and colored pencils. The Golden Mean as been used in design since Antiquity…We will practice an easy way to apply the Golden Mean to projects using the Fibonacci Number Sequence….Plus Story Boarding.

Dorset Button (Beginner)
Join me in a fun class that features a 400 year old Dorset Button making technique. In this class you’ll receive all materials to make 2 Dorset natural fiber buttons along with written instructions. Basic sewing skills are all that are needed to go home with a one of a kind button! Feel free to bring wool yarns or threads to co-ordinate your Dorset button with any of your own creative projects, otherwise, all materials will be provided.

Fleece Skirting and Sorting (Beginner)
Whether you own animals or purchase fleeces, understanding how to select a quality fleece is essential. In this class, you’ll learn the basics of skirting and sorting fleeces. We’ll demonstrate how to skirt an alpaca fleece using real examples and provide guidance on identifying the best and less desirable fibers. We’ll also discuss the various products that can be made from different fleece qualities. Students will receive printed materials to take home for future reference. If you have fleeces that have been noodled, feel free to bring them along.

Hawk Tail Broom (Beginner)
Learn to tie a Hawk Tail whisk broom. Broom tying requires hand strength and patience. Students should bring a pair of scissors. All other materials provided.

Needle Punch (Beginner)
Needle punch class for beginners using fingering weight yarn and DMC floss. Pattern is called Sunflower and Pennies by Finch Holler Woolens. This pattern is a Fiber-U exclusive and won’t be released to our website until after classes! Class fee includes pattern and kit. Additional supplies needed: Smart Punch or Ultra Punch, scissors, and gripper frame. If a student doesn’t have a gripper frame or a punch, they can be borrowed or purchased in class. We will create a fun design with threads. You will learn technique and finishing skills.

Fiber Animal Nutrition (Beginner)
We will explore the many factors it takes for an animal to produce a beautiful and lustrous fiber.

Ply Split Braiding (Beginner)
Ply-split braiding is a technique where one twisted cord passes through another twisted cord or cords splitting the plies of the latter cords. This is unlike weaving or many forms of braiding where cloth is formed by threads interlacing in an over-under sequence. Patterns are formed by cord color, and splitting order. This is a very basic beginner class in ply split braiding. Students will learn 2 braid structures. We will discuss yarns and tools. Students will make a key fob.

Sheep Shearing (Beginner)
Are you wanting to learn how to shear your own sheep by yourself? Or are you curious where raw wool comes from that you love to spin? If that’s you AND you want to figure out if Hand or Electric sheep shearing fits your style then don’t miss this class! Shearing is an art that can be done several ways. This class will give you hands on shearing practice with hand shears (Jakoti’s) & electric shears. We will use a shearing stand for hand shearing & the Australian style on the ground for the electric method. Hand Shears will be provided to use and the electric shearing set up as well. No need to bring anything but yourself and lots of questions!
There will be plenty of handouts to be had, a shearing set up & safety briefing before we start. We will provide several sheep to shear, some long wool like BFL or Border Leicester cross & fine/medium wool like a Romeldale-CVM or a cross. Expect to get your hands dirty because it’s hands on! Students will be able to take some fleece they sheared home if they want! Let’s make naked sheep!!

Shuttle Tatting (Beginner)
Learn the basics of shuttle tatting including rings, chains, picots, and joins and begin creating heirloom lace or fun accessories. This class includes a kit with 2 shuttles, 2 balls of thread, and handouts. Students should bring scissors, tape measure, highlighter tape or post –it notes or magnetic chart, writing implement or note taking items.

Tape Lace (Idrija style) (Beginner)
Tape laces are great for beginning lacers because there are fewer bobbins – 5 pairs to start. Idrija lace comes from Slovenia, and it is a very functional lace used often to decorate clothing or household linens. You will learn the foundation movements for making bobbin lace (cross and twist), working cloth stitch and whole stitch, starting in a row, sewings to connect the tape, as well as other skills like winkie pins to create a butterfly than can become a pin or can be sewn to a garment or cloth. While you are working on your lace, we will discuss various lace topics and see examples of more advanced lace techniques. Class fee includes a student pillow, 10 bobbins, thread, pins, pin cushion, cover cloth and the pattern. Students can bring a pair of small embroidery scissors, a .6-.75 mm crochet hook and/or a pin lifter/pusher if they have them. There will be a few crochet hooks and pin lifters available that students can share during class.

Spinning
Drop Spinning & Plying (Beginner)
Learn how to spin your own yarn from natural fibers without the hassle and cost of a spinning wheel. In this class, we will learn the basics of drop spindles and how to spin on them, working in pairs and breaking down each movement required into smaller, more digestible bits. We will also cover multiple plying techniques and how to finish your yarn. All attendees will go home with handspun yarn that they have made and a drop spindle to keep.

Beginning Wheel Spinning (Beginner)
Congratulations! You jumped feet first into spinning and bought your first wheel! Too bad you have no idea how to use it. If it isn’t actively contributing to your stress levels, its probably sitting in timeout collecting dust. We can fix that. In this class, you will learn to make your own yarn on your spinning wheel. Students should bring a spinning wheel in working order. Fiber for class will be provided. (There will be limited wheels for rent).

Fractal Spinning 3-ply (Adv Beginner)
Bring your spinning wheel and learn to create beautiful 3-ply fractal yarn with a braid of bold colored roving (provided) and some instruction you will learn to create beautiful fractal yarn.

Fiber Braid Options (Adv. Beginner)
You just impulse bought a beautiful braid of indie dyed fiber in the vendor hall. It matches nothing else in your stash. You don’t just want to ply it against itself. Now what? In this class we’ll explore color handing methods, including fractal plying, chain plying, and creating a “true neutral.” One braid can hold a million possibilities! Students should be able to spin a single ply and bring a spinning wheel in working order. Fiber for class will be provided.

Intermediate Drop Spinning
So you’ve learned how to drop spin! Now what? Join us on an exploration of next steps. In this class, we will: practice standing and moving around while drop spinning; learn some spinning techniques; spin a variety of fibers; try out drop spindles with different physics and learn how to adjust accordingly; and break down your current spinning practice to improve different elements and get the yarn that you want.

Worsted Spinning (Intermediate)
Drape, that elusive quality of how fabric hangs and moves. Merino won’t get you there. How yarn is constructed has a lot to do with how it lays in a finished project. In this class we’ll explore what elements contribute to drape in handspun yarn and how to avoid some pitfalls, like under spinning for drape. Students should bring a spinning wheel in good working order. Fiber for class will be provided.

Chair Caning (Beginner)
Students will learn the six step process for hand caning a chair seat. You will receive a small foot stool frame, a dozen caning pegs, natural cane and printed instructions

Garlic Basket (Beginner)
This is an easy, quick basket that I found very useful. It is a Garlic Keeper. Hang it in your kitchen to keep your garlic or small onions fresh. All material provided.

Inkle Loom (Beginner)
Have you ever looked at the big looms and wondered if weaving was for you? This class is your chance to find out! We will use a Mini Inkle Loom to explore weaving with a simple heddle system to create a basic warp-faced fabric that will introduce you to some of the principles used in weaving on multiple harness looms. You will learn to warp your loom, tie heddles, create 2 different shed to pass the shuttle through, how to keep your edges tidy and how to begin and end your project. Class fee included a handcrafted Poplar wood loom and oak shuttle for you to keep along with the threads for your class project.

Learning to Twine (Beginner)
Twining is an ancient craft that has been done basically the same way throughout time. Learn how to weave a beautiful rag rug or place mats without the expense of buying a loom. I will show you how to use up those leftover scraps of material or yarn from prior projects, worn out jeans or even a bed sheet that somehow got a hole in it. After completing this class project you will have a sample that can be used as a hot pad to adorn your table. The twining frame is yours to keep. All materials will be furnished including handouts.

Peg Loom Weaving (Beginner)
Explore all the possibilities of using a Peg Loom in a variety of ways. Versatile and easy to use, the Peg Loom can be used to create a wide range of items such as wall hangings, rugs, scarves, or even a purse. After taking this class your imagination will be the only boundaries of your creativity. This class is for all levels. Use of a Peg Loom included in class fee. All materials furnished including handouts.

Picnic Caddy (Beginner)
Don’t let the name fool you, this basket can be used for more than just a picnic, with 3 compartments how about on the desk with envelopes, stamps, pens and tape. Or better yet, cleaning supplies for easy transportation. Maybe for the bathroom with hair accessories! Not to mention roving, yarn, needles, stitch markers and scissors for any project. This basket is approximately 9 x 9 x 4. Laying out the base, twining, start/stop weaving will be taught. Using the caddy as a mold you will learn how to weave around it for a custom fit. Four ball feet will be attached to the completed basket. Everyone will leave with a completed caddy ready for use! No experience or tools need for this class. All materials and the use of class tools will be supplied in class.

Rigid Heddle Weaving (Beginner)
Interested in learning to weave but not ready for a big loom? Start by learning basic weaving techniques on a rigid heddle loom. We will address direct warping the loom and working with color and textures to create beautifully woven items. Use of the instructor’s rigid heddle looms and all yarn will be provided.

Scandinavian Band Weaving (Beginner)
Band weaving using a short slot reed. The reed has short slots for just the pattern threads, it suspends them in the middle of each open shed making it easier to choose what you pick up. While many are familiar with the band pick up using the reed with the odd number of pattern threads, surprisingly bands woven with an even number or threads has quite a different appearance. All materials provided.

Tapestry Weaving (Beginner)
Learn Weft Facing on the Tapestry Sampler Frame. True Tapestry has a Weft Facing and the Warp disappears in the structure and packing of the weave. A loom, the Warp Thread and a Tapestry Needle is included with the class. Students should bring a variety of yarn weights and preferred colors to the class. Dyed Long Wool Locks also add interest. The goal of the class is to warp the little loom in the class and begin the technique of Weft Facing, then will add joins and color shifts.

Weaving in the Round (Beginner)
Take your creativity to the next level and learn the art of weaving in the round. All materials will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring any yarns you want to play with. Students get to take home their loom and needle and finish their project at home.

Color Effects in CSW (Adv Beginner)
Have you already taken the basic Continuous Strand Weaving class and have the technique down? Ready for the next step in making your shawls and blakets POP and sell? Using 2 colors to create twills, strips, checks and log cabin designs is really not difficult in CSW. Come learn some fun new ways to weave on these unique looms. If you already have a square (washcloth, convertible 12” or 18”) travel size frame loom (no 6” mini mods) bring it along (let instructor know) Otherwise loom, yarns and tools for your project in class will be provided.

Fingerwoven Boarders (Adv. Beginner)
Sometimes a fingerwoven design can be enhanced by adding single, double or even triple boarders much like matting on a framed painting. Borders are all easy and fun! You will weave a chevron with borders. All material including wool yarn are provided. If students don’t know how to do the chevron, they will be given an instruction book.

Turned Krokbragd Weaving (Adv Beginner)
Students must know how to warp an inkle loom. Once you have the mechanics of dressing an inkle loom and weaving a uniform band, a good next step is to weave turned krokbragd. This is a warp face weave that requires no pick-up. Using three sheds; you can weave figures, geometrics or even create landscapes and other non-traditional patterns. Going from the possibility of two sheds to three sheds exponentially increases design potential. We will assume you already know how to warp your own loom and can completely weave a band.

Advanced Inkle Weaving
Learn how to make decorative trims and braids on the inkle loom Students should bring their own pre-warped inkle loom at a minimum of 15 up warps and 16 down warps, your choice of colors/pattern, scissors, #10 crochet cotton in colors you like, E beads (larger than seed beads) and small metal, stone, plastic, bone, or glass beads, and a notebook and pen for note-taking. This is an intermediate to advanced inkle weaving class and isn’t intended to teach warping your loom: students should be familiar with making a basic inkle band. This is a swatching class where we will be exploring decorative techniques on the inkle loom.
